Welcome To The Forthcoming Indian Ecological Society International Conference (IESIC2024)

Since its founding in 1974, the Indian Ecological Society has played a critical role in supporting the field of ecology in general and agroecology in particular. Now in our 50th year, the Society is excited to announce the organization of the 4th Indian Ecological Society International Conference. The Society in collaboration with Punjab Agricultural University (https://www.pau.edu) , Ludhiana India, the Pioneer of Ushering the Green Revolution in India, will be hosting the International Conference on “Transforming agrifood systems in the face of climate changes and energy transitions” on November 12-15, 2024.

The primary threat to “sustainable agriculture” is climate change.  If agriculture is to be made “sustainable,” that means human-caused climate change has to be slowed and then ended.  In turn that means that energy transitions across the world must succeed in replacing fossil fuels.  If energy transitions do not occur fast enough, climate change continues and probably worsens.  In turn, the potential for agricultural sustainability continues to drop. The Indian Ecological Society and the Punjab Agricultural University will bring together an impressive diversity of knowledge, disciplines, and viewpoints to build a more holistic approach to reverse the climate crisis in line with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals for regeneration and transaction to resilient agri-food systems.

Session Themes

1. Climate Changes and Energy Transitions

  • Climate change adaptation and mitigation
  • Tolerance of plants and livestock to heat, flooding, drought, and saltwater intrusions
  • Optimizing energy required for tillage and other farm operations
  • Making soils a carbon-sink while maintaining fertility and use
  • Preparing for new pest invasions as climates change
  • Electrification of farm machinery
  • Energy and water-efficient innovations for Agri-food systems
  • Reduce emission of greenhouse gases
  • Emerging Pests – threat to sustainable agriculture
